1. Digital Preservation and Archiving Policy

The International Journal of Education and Vocational Studies (IJEVS) is committed to preserving its published scholarly content and maintaining long-term access to the journal's academic record.

The journal recognizes that digital preservation is essential to ensure that published articles remain accessible, identifiable, authentic, and usable even when technical systems, hosting environments, or publishing infrastructure change.

2. Objectives

The IJEVS digital archiving policy aims to:

  • Preserve published articles and associated scholarly records for the long term.
  • Maintain the integrity and authenticity of published content.
  • Support continued access to published research.
  • Preserve article-level bibliographic metadata.
  • Maintain persistent article identification through DOI and other available identifiers.
  • Support author self-archiving and responsible scholarly dissemination.
  • Reduce the risk of permanent loss of scholarly content.

3. Long-Term Digital Preservation

IJEVS uses digital preservation mechanisms appropriate to its publishing infrastructure to support the long-term preservation of published content.

PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

IJEVS intends to use the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) as a long-term digital preservation mechanism for content published through OJS, subject to the journal's OJS version, plugin availability, activation, and successful participation in the PKP PN service.

PKP PN is designed for OJS journals and uses LOCKSS-based preservation infrastructure. The service is intended to provide an additional preservation layer beyond the journal's own website and server environment. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}

4. PKP Preservation Network Implementation

Where the PKP Preservation Network plugin is available and compatible with the journal's OJS installation, the journal will use the PKP PN plugin to facilitate preservation deposits.

  1. Verify compatibility between the IJEVS OJS installation and the PKP Preservation Network plugin.
  2. Enable and configure the PKP PN plugin through the OJS administration interface.
  3. Review and accept the applicable PKP PN service terms.
  4. Ensure that published content is eligible for preservation deposit.
  5. Monitor preservation status and address technical errors where identified.
Transparency Note

The journal will not claim that an article or journal is preserved through PKP PN until the service has actually been enabled and the preservation process has been successfully established.

5. Self-Archiving Policy

IJEVS permits authors to self-archive their scholarly work without an embargo period, subject to the applicable copyright, licensing, privacy, and ethical requirements.

No Embargo Period
Authors may deposit permitted versions of their work immediately without an embargo period.

9. DOI and Persistent Article Identification

Published IJEVS articles may be assigned Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) through the journal's DOI infrastructure.

Authors, repositories, and other scholarly systems are encouraged to preserve the article DOI when distributing or archiving published content.

Persistent Link

The DOI should be used whenever possible as the persistent reference to the published version of record.

10. OAI-PMH and Metadata Harvesting

Where enabled and available through the IJEVS OJS installation, the journal supports structured dissemination of bibliographic metadata through Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH).

OAI-PMH supports harvesting of structured article metadata by repositories, discovery services, and other scholarly information systems.

11. Backup and Data Protection

Appropriate backup procedures should be maintained for the journal's digital publication infrastructure.

Backup scope may include:

  • OJS database records.
  • Published article files.
  • Supplementary files where applicable.
  • Journal configuration and metadata.
  • DOI and bibliographic information.
  • Relevant administrative records.

Backup systems should be protected against unauthorized access, accidental deletion, corruption, and other risks that may result in loss of scholarly content.

12. Identification of Archived Versions

Where multiple versions of an article are available, authors and repositories are encouraged to identify the version being archived clearly.

Submitted Version
Manuscript originally submitted for editorial consideration.
Accepted Version
Author Accepted Manuscript after peer review.
Published Version
Final Version of Record published by IJEVS.

13. Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

Digital preservation includes preservation of the history of the scholarly record. When a published article requires a correction, retraction, or Expression of Concern, the journal will maintain an appropriate notice and link it to the affected publication where applicable.

The purpose is to ensure that readers and scholarly information systems can identify the current status and publication history of the affected article.

14. Long-Term Access and Continuity

IJEVS seeks to maintain continued access to published content despite changes in website configuration, hosting infrastructure, OJS versions, or other technical environments.

Preservation measures may include:

  • Regular backup of publication data and files.
  • Preservation of article metadata and DOI information.
  • Maintenance of appropriate storage infrastructure.
  • Technical migration when necessary.
  • Verification of article accessibility after major system changes.
  • Use of appropriate long-term preservation services.

15. Preservation During Platform Changes

If IJEVS changes its OJS installation, hosting environment, domain, database infrastructure, or other technical systems, reasonable measures will be taken to preserve published content and metadata.

Such measures may include database migration, file migration, DOI continuity, URL preservation, metadata verification, backup restoration testing, and validation of published article accessibility.

16. Copyright and Licensing

Self-archiving and redistribution of IJEVS articles must comply with the journal's applicable copyright and licensing terms.

Published articles are distributed under the journal's stated Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) license, subject to the applicable copyright and third-party material conditions described in the journal's Copyright & Licensing policy.

17. Author Responsibilities

Authors who self-archive their work are encouraged to:

  • Use the correct version of the manuscript.
  • Clearly identify IJEVS as the original place of publication.
  • Include the article DOI whenever available.
  • Include a link to the official IJEVS article page whenever possible.
  • Preserve the article's bibliographic information.
  • Respect copyright, licensing, privacy, and third-party material requirements.
